I am calling BS on this whole thing. You shouldn’t be appalled, you should do more about it. Instead of giving out a one year sentence to man who murders one and shoots another in the same incident. He gives a drug tip and now it’s ok to put a killer back on the streets? Are you people that stupid? Quite riding around handing out seatbelt and speeding tickets. You want to do something about crime do it. Don’t say “Well this program worked here” or “We are trying to get the community involved”. We pay enough in taxes Chet. Get up and do your job. “Protect and Serve” not “Sit and Ticket”. Not one person has hit the hammer on the head. Job loss has increased crime. Drug sales goes up and so does theft and violent crime. All the jobs from the west end moved out east or northeast. What are people suppose to do besides be put asside with no hope. Here’s a tip…CREATE JOBS.

I wasn’t aware that it’s the police chief’s responsibility to create jobs.

Sounds like Epperson and his patron, Mayor Pothole need to get on board with the idea of a concealed carry law for the state of Illinois. Stop listening to Daley and other urban mayors who have restrictive gun laws but still have high gun crime. The evidence speaks for itself. We should arm law abiding citizens and teach them to shoot straight and then watch home invasions drop. Criminals prefer unarmed citizens. Let’s make concealed carry a reality.

As far as creating jobs, no we don’t have a skilled workforce and the job market is not good. But the sad truth is that many of these people are UNEMPLOYABLE. Don’t confuse lack of job skills with employability: 1) Show up on time, 2) show up every day and 3) dress decent and 4) don’t have an attitude. How many of this “at-risk” population could cut it, especially young people? So when I hear about these grandiose job programs, i think of the old saying “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink”. In this town we spend a helluva lot of resources leading the horse to water.
