A wide variety of earnings are expected from Star 60 companies this week, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc., which is scheduled to be released today.
Other companies releasing earnings this week include, Lowes Companies, which released earnings yesterday, Deere & Co. and Hormel Foods Corp.
The influence of Wal-Mart has been a national phenomenon the past two decades and that has included the Rock River Valley.
The Arkansas-based mega retailer opened its first store in the Rock River Valley in 1986 in Rochelle and it had about 200 employees.
By 2000, Wal-Mart had about 650 workers at stores in Rochelle and Rockford. The past decade saw Wal-Mart build super centers all over Rockford and in Belvidere and Rockton and the company increased its estimated local work force to about 2,750.
Ever try to buy something at Wal-Mart not made in China? Unfortunately people don’t care and the press praises it, when it has destroyed jobs by the millions. But nobody seems to care. It is already too late.
