Dole tells Limbaugh to lay off McCain

Former U.S. Senator and 1996 Republican presidential nominee Bob Dole has written to Rush Limbaugh, asking him to PUT A LID ON THE VITRIOLÂ against John McCain.
Limbaugh and other prominent members of the the GOP’s hard-right wing are suffering mass apoplexy over the likely prospect that the insufficiently conservative McCain will be the party’s standard-bearer this year.
For a summary of Dole’s letter and Limbaugh’s rhetoric, check HERE. And be sure to read the comments at the bottom of the piece for a heavy dose of anti-McCain sentiment.

Considering the GOP candidates, and who is left standing, maybe the ‘base’ of the GOP is now so small as to be unable to support a candidate sufficient enough to get the nomination. Sam Brownback, and Fred Thompson, both with sterling ‘conservative’ credentials, couldn’t get past the first round of primaries. Maybe the country has changed to the point that the hard right wing is so small as to be irrelevant, even in the GOP. I don’t think Limbaugh realizes he is preaching to an ever smaller choir. Just love those drug addicted, divorced family values guys.
