Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

When we pull out of Iraq, that 720 million a day should be used for building oil fields in Anwar, and Nuclear Power…since we won’t be getting any oil out of the Middle East or Venezuela.

To see what else we could be doing with the money we spend in the sand:

I really need to get this off my chest…..how about spending this war chest on the BUDGET DEFICIT…instead of printing money for more entitlements. Thank you all hard working illegal/legal immigrants for saving us old folk from not having social security. I will learn spanish in your honor.

Hey, we didn’t have any budget deficits when Bill Clinton left office. We had surpluses. But then the borrow-and-spend Republicans took over and produced big deficits. To make matters worse, they passed tax cuts for the rich despite all the red ink. Our children and grandchildren will have to cover the tab for those tax cuts. Of course, we’re hearing the usual Republican rhetoric this year about the need to make government smaller. Ronald Reagan used to say that stuff, but he presided over big growth in government (and monstrous budget deficits). No wonder the economy invariably does better under Democratic presidents than under Republicans. (You can look it up if you doubt me. Or you can challenge me without looking it up, which will give me an opportunity to post the facts of the matter. Yeah, do that, please, please, please.)

Spinning economic report card results for each presidential term in office is like predicting the weather. You can make it lean either way. If you want to produce your facts….please don’t use Daily Kos for your facts. The effects of the economy take a long time to show up and are too complex for one President to take credit for. Much like the solar flares on the sun affecting global warming along with CO2 buildup and the Santa Ana Winds….and and and……just no more Daily Kos.
Pat….if you had to choose between Pure Capitalism and Pure Communism….which would you choose?
7. Pat Cunningham | February 14th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Pure capitalism or pure communism? There never have been pure forms of either. I’ll always choose the least tyrannical system. And I’ll always laugh at the Chamber of Commerce types who extol the virtues of what they call the “free enterprise system.” We’ve never had a completely free enterprise system in America, and the business community wouldn’t want one, anyway. Markets aren’t free. They’re shaped and reshaped and re-reshaped by government at the insistence of business lobbyists. Just look at such industries as energy, health care, communications, agriculture, etc., etc. They’re all regulated according to the dictates of the lobbyists. Ethanol, for example, could never cut it in a truly free market.
