Is McCain a natural-born American?
February 28th, 2008 at 08:36am Pat Cunningham
Mr. Straight Talk was born in the Panama Canal Zone, which raises constitutional  QUESTIONS about his eligibility to run for president.
On behalf of Barack Obama, I say let McCain run. Please, let him run. Please.

In 1936 the CZ was considered American Soil. Rented, yes, but American Soil.
I think someone’s picking nits

He is not a natural born American. The reason he supports Illigal Aliens is because he is one himself.
Quite how he thinks he is more patriotic than Obama who is, is beyond me.

So the ‘brilliance’ of Jimmy Carter strikes again….US lives died building the canal….only to give it up….

As the late Sen. S.I. Hayakawa once said of the Canal Zone: “We should keep it, because we stole it fair and square.”
Oh, by the way, Kaus, the Panama Canal Treaty wasn’t entirely a Jimmy Carter deal. It also was supported by Gerald Ford, Henry Kissinger, Howard Baker, John Wayne and a majority in the U.S. Senate.

Actually most of the labor was done by West Indian and Chinese workers, the “silver” employees. Immigrant Labor. (but don’t tell Lou Dobbs)

That the Supreme Court has not ruled is only a function of never having a case.
That they would decide that a child born to two American citizens does not equal a natural born citizen is the wishful thinking of the NYT (which is rapidly degenerating to the level of USA Today) and the loony left.
You’ll get your wish Pat but I think you’ll rue the day.

1. We didn’t steal the Panama Canal, we finished what the French couldn’t. In fact we gave the Panamanians independence from Columbia.
2. Only the President can put his signature to a bill. Jimmy takes responsibility for giving it away. It was still a bad decision.

It just would have seems a bit more ethical if an actual Panamanian had signed the treaty in 1903.

Actually it was a mutual and very ethical greement…Panama gets its own nation with American intervention against Columbia….America gets to build the canal. Our proud and great nation made a great contribution to the world that day.

I don’t mean to diminish the vast importance of the canal. It was not only the greatest engineering feat in history and possibly the least vice-ridden public project our country has ever done, but also one of the most internationally beneficial accomplishments the US has ever had a hand in.
The Hay-Bunau-Varilla, though, was a model of Bully Diplomacy. It was never “mutual” and a point of contention between our two nations from its inception. But, we being we, and they being they, the Panamanians agreed to it. They had to.
