Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Where’s Harry Truman when we need him?

When Harry Truman was in the U.S. Senate, he famously rode herd on defense contractors who were selling shoddy and overpriced materiel during World War II.

John McCain is NO HARRY TRUMAN.

…but ‘Bama has loads of experience in this area…Mr. Hope.

That makes a lot of sense. Just once, Kaus, try to defend McCain on the basis of HIS record, not Obama’s — unless there’s a direct corrolary, which there is not in this case. McCain is on the Armed Services Committee. Obama is not.

I don’t offer a McCain position because I don’t know all the details. Your source doesn’t either. I would imagine that a lot of duties get neglected when you are busy running for President. Considering Obama has never held a committee post position, I would say that my observation is correct and that he is a small fish in a big pond that can throw a lot of stones. A lot of experience means some mistakes along the way.

But thanks for pointing my flaws out. I will stop comparing Obama to McCain since one has experience and one does’t. Hope doesn’t need experience.

There’s nothing wrong with making comparisons between McCain and Obama, but not apples-and-oranges comparisons. As I said (perhaps too snarkily) in my reply to your first comment, comparisons are perfectly valid when there are corrolaries. The point with respect to the Kevlar helmets is that McCain’s a ranking member of a committee that deals with stuff like that. Obama’s committee assignments are not directly related. Nor is it fair of you to say that Obama has no “experience.” Granted, he’s not as experienced as McCain, simply by virtue of their ages. However, Obama has more legislative experience than does Hillary Clinton. By the way, polls show that experience is not a very important factor among voters this year, which is why Hillary’s campaign focus on experience has not worked very well for her. This is the year of change, Dude.
