Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

George will nails John McCain

It’s one thing for John McCain to incur the wrath of loony right-wingers like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter, but it’s quite another for him to receive DEVASTATINGLY SHARP CRITICISM from George Will, a relatively respectable conservative who actually walks upright.

UPDATE: As if Will’s cruel jabs weren’t enough, now McCain has to suffer TAUNTING from Steve Benen over the fact that his grammar ain’t no good, neither.

Pat-How gracious of you to allow that some Conservatives are not knuckle draggers. Why do I suspect that your high opinion of Will is tied to his (correct in my opinion)criticsm of McCain for his self righteousness. Unquestionably a character flaw but , when compared to the hubris of a candidate who feels his experience of a scant 4 years ago fixing parking tickets in Springfield prepares him for the Presidency, one that I (and I suspect Geoge Will) can live with.

My observations on Pat and George Will:
    1. Pat should have read Will’s piece on Bill Buckley before Pat wrote his nasty racist branded eulogy.
    2. George Will had nice thoughts on Obama being “the most interesting candidate”….but that isn’t exactly an endorsement of Obama over McCain.
    3. George Will is more credible than “The Daily KOS” and the New York Times.

I’ve always admired Will. Not always agreed with him, but always admired him. He combines two qualities that are non-existent in the current crop of Neo-Cons - intelligence & civility.
    It’s a shame he’s one of a kind. A damn shame.

By the way, Bennen is wrong….Democrat is a word. And the term ‘democrat party’ has been used as a slur on Democrats for a long time….similar to the now popular ‘Hussein’ term used by Republicans. I am shocked that McCain would slip that in there.

hokumboy-FYI-George Will is not a Neo-Con. He is a traditional Consevative who views the Neo-Con group as severely over reaching.

Hokumboy says that neo-cons don’t have intelligence or civility…..but they DO have common sense.

I think Pat should add this article from Will regarding Superbama…http://www.townhall.com/columnists/GeorgeWill/2007/09/30/questions_for_obama

I never said Will was a Neo-Con. I said he had qualities that don’t exist in the current crop of so-called Conservatives, the Neo-Cons. Intelligence and Civility.

I’m glad to see that you boys can play nice with one another while I’m away from Applesauce World Headquarters for a few hours. Several things: 1) Mike, I don’t have a “high opinion” of George Will, but I find that he’s fairly civilized compared to the likes of Limbaugh, et al. 2) Kaus, Bennen didn’t say “Democrat” is not a word. He said it’s a noun, not an adjective. I’m a Democrat, but I don’t belong to the Democrat Party, because there is no such thing, no matter what the idiot Publicans say. 3) I don’t care what George Will said about Buckley. The fact remains that Buckley was a racist, as his own words prove. His celebrated “charm” arose mainly from his patrician manner. (”Oh, darling, while you’re up, could you bring more wine and brie for Biff and Muffy?”)
