Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Have the media been cowed by SNL?

Just asking.  You know, because of THIS.

Yes Pat. I love to hate the media….it is my right to hate you or love you….since I have bought your newspaper and read your blog, I don’t want you nor the Daily Kos to give up trying to convince me that your elitist ideas might have a shred of merit. I doubt that some one of your mettle will ever cow tow to SNL however. Maybe the NYT…but not YOU.

    Gee Pat.
It must do you proud to see someone considers you among the elite!
Where did that “elite” business come from anyway? Who started with the term and how can I too become one of the elite too? Do I have to take a course? Or ,can I just sign up somewhere? Are there dues? Do you get a membership card, or a badge, or a hat?

If memory serves, right-wingers first applied the word “elite” to the mainstream media back in the Nixon era. It might even have been the infamous Vice President Spiro Agnew who popularized the term as part of his anti-media campaign in defense of himself, his boss and the other crooks in the administration. The Nixon gang figured they could strike a populist chord with the booboisie if they cast the news media as a tool of snobby pontificators in their ivory towers with their degrees from fancy schools and their summer estates in the Hamptons or drug dens in upscale apartments. That crap made it all the funnier when Nixon and Agnew separately had to resign in disgrace. Oh, those were great days! I miss Nixon.
