Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

McCain’s comment that causes me the most problems is his proclaiming that we are going to have more wars. By saying that, he’s making it that much more likely that we will. I’m just hoping that these comments about more wars and 100 years in Iraq will allow McCain to withdraw troops much sooner than otherwise. Since he’s so hawkish, it will be tougher for anyone to accuse him of being weak of “cutting and running.” That’s how it worked for Nixon in improving relations with China. Because he was so vocally anti-communist, it allowed him to make inroads with China without the usual criticism from the right. Had it been a moderate, Nixon would have been the first criticize it. While I don’t like McCain’s stand on Iraq, I do feel that he’s not a hardline idealogue who will stay there forever no matter what. Having been through war, he knows it horrors.
