Flash: Democrat wins Hastert’s seat

In a special election today in the 14th Congressional District of Illinois, Democrat Bill Foster defeated Republican Jim Oberweis to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert.

This district had been solidly Republican since forever, and the Hastert connection makes the political shift all the more dramatic. There’ll be a national buzz about this one for a few days.
