Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

I believe many (including Pat) brought up the Parley connection. It won’t stick.
    1. Parsley’s comments regarding Muslims are very bold, but certainly not un-american. Wright’s are.
    2. The twin towers come down because of musliim extremists. At least Parsley is in the ball park. Wright takes on all white Americans and the US Goverment. That will disconnect quite a few voters on the fence.
    3. Barack’s denial of Fox equates with Clinton saying he didn’t inhale.

Parsley’s comments are “certainly not unAmerican”? The man is opposed to religious freedom. He wants to destroy Islam. No, that’s not unAmerican. In fact, among the Archie Bunkers, that’s patriotic.
By the way, Kaus, what the hell is “Barack’s denial of Fox”? I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Wait a minute. I finally figured out that you meant “denial ON Fox,” not “OF Fox.” OK, I checked out what Obama said in his interview on Fox with Major Garret. You said it “equates with Clinton saying he didn’t inhale.” But Clinton’s statement was a lie. Nothing Obama said seems to have been dishonest. So what are you talking about? Perhaps you’re the one who’s been inhaling.

Yes I meant denial ON Fox. Ok…so twenty years hanging around with Wright and never heard him say those things…I think Pat is inhaling :-)
In regards to destroying Islam, my point is that that rhetoric appeals to a lot of voters who see what is happening around the world. You can equate that with Archie Bunker if you want, but the percentage of muslim voters is quite small…compared to Archie Bunkers that watch Fox….Fox holds double the amount of viewers that CNN. Thus, the Parsley bashing is not going to stick in the minds of the majority of voters. Compared to the remarks of Wright, I think I can sleep better at night with Parsley as my buddy….as an American.

Kaus: Several things: 1) “Twenty years hanging around with Wright”? What kind of nonsense is that? Do you hang around with your clergyman? I’ve attended church thousands of times, but I didn’t hang around with the priests. 2) The nitwits who regularly watch Fox aren’t going to vote for Obama anyway, so who cares? 3) You’re wrong about the ratings. The New York Times recently reported this: All three cable news networks — CNN, Fox News and MSNBC — have enjoyed ratings bumps during the primaries. But CNN is able to brag about something it had not been able to since 2001: it topped Fox News in the prime-time ratings for a single month in the 25 to 54 age category, the group most coveted by advertisers. In February, CNN attracted an average of 750,000 viewers in that category during prime time, compared with 550,000 for Fox News and 363,000 for MSNBC, according to Nielsen. (Across all age groups Fox News remained No. 1, with an average of 2.2 million viewers in prime time, compared with 2 million for CNN.) 4) So, Parsley’s your “buddy,” eh? Why am I not surprised? You seem to have a special fondness for fascists.

One more thing about CNN vs. Fox. Last year, CNN had revenues of more than $1 billion, while Fox had revenues of about $800 million. You see, Fox has 10 percent more viewers overall, but CNN’s viewers tend to be better educated and thus better off financially. These folks are more attractive to advertisers.

Chicago Tribune…Jan. 21, 2007…”What I value most about Pastor Wright is not his day-to-day political advice,” Obama said. “He’s much more of a sounding board for me to make sure that I am speaking as truthfully about what I believe as possible and that I’m not losing myself in some of the hype and hoopla and stress that’s involved in national politics.”

Wright married him and baptised his kids…….drink the Obama kool aid.

Do you think Obama appeared on Fox News because he is a Sean Hannity fan? The Dems can’t even hold a debate on Fox. Obama appeared on Fox because…..you say no one cares? I think their are quite a few attractive voters in the baby boomer era that vote that can make a difference in the election.

If you are on a desert island and have to choose between Wright and Parsley….they may both be fascists…Wright appears to be an ethnic fascist….does that make Obama a fascist lover?

I am not endorsing hatred. But if you have to pick your poison…Obama/Wright vs. Mccain/Parsley…..I love America.

Do you love America more than me? More than Obama? I get a kick out of the self-congratutions with which right-wingers flaunt their patriotism. They seem to think of patriotism as a competitive sport: My flag is bigger than your flag. My goosebumps at the sound of the national anthem are bigger than yours. I support the troops more than you do. I would never second-guess the commander in chief during time of war because that’s unpatriotic. I support the war in Iraq because it’s patriotic payback for 9/11. I wear a flag lapel-pin and you don’t, therefore I’m a better American. I want America to kick ass all over the world just to show people who’s boss. I love John Wayne because he helped us win World War II. I hate everything French.

Oops. I was wrong in Comment No. 6 about the comparative financial situations of viewers of CNN and Fox. The latest data show that median income among Fox viewers is higher than that of CNN viewers. However, CNN viewers are better informed. In a survey conducted last year, regular viewers of CNN were able to answer more current-affairs questions correctly than viewers of Fox News.

All those words you type! And yet….no answer for why Obama appeared on Fox. Tsk tsk.

You know….people that take pride in their homes keep them neat and tidy and attractive and actually want their neighbors to have tidy rooms too….all the neighbors are happier. If you hate your home….then you should move…rather than make everyone else miserable. There is nothing wrong with Nationalism.

Have you noticed the 7 percent dip in Obama’s numbers today?
