Tragic milestone

The American death toll in Iraq has reached 4,000.
A U.S. military spokesman played down the significance of the number, declaring: “No casualty is more or less significant than another…”
Yeah, to paraphrase Joseph Stalin: One death is a tragedy; 4,000 deaths is a statistic.
POSTSCRIPT: By the way, 97 percent of U.S. military deaths in Iraq have occurred since President Bush postured on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln in front of a sign reading: “Mission Accomplished.”

The 4000 figure occurs as the Bush administrations “designated” “Cheerleader/Pitbull” Dick Cheney sweeps across the middle east putting the administration’s latest spin on the conflict. Interesting how their latest spin sounds like their spin of four and five years ago.
