This is pretty mean — I love it

Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

Actor Richard Widmark, who went to high school in Princeton, Ill., about 90 minutes down the road from Rockford, has DIED at age 93.
If you’ve never seen it, make a point of catching Widmark’s movie debut in “Kiss of Death.” His character is unforgettably evil.
Despite his screen image, Widmark is said to have hated guns and violence. He also hated the Hollywood scene and jealously guarded his privacy.

THIS GUY, an economist, says the latest report from the Social Security Trustees shows that the system’s “actuarial balance has been improving rather than worsening.”
But, of course, we still can expect some Republicans to argue that the system needs a radical overhaul or perhaps abandonment.
John McCain once even SAID that “we stop paying Social Security” in the year 2042, if something isn’t done to save the system. But that’s not true.

According to THIS, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is more than willing to be John McCain’s running mate.
At first blush, the idea of such a ticket has a certain political appeal: A black woman just a heartbeat away from a presidency occupied by an old guy. It supposedly steals some of the Democratic Party’s thunder, no matter whether Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton is the candidate.
On the other hand, it would be a war ticket with a capital W, which could pose a big political problem.

Much has been made in recent weeks of a National Journal study that rates Barack Obama as the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate.
And just what, pray tell, makes Obama so liberal? Well, let’s see. Oh, yeah, he voted to require the Department of Homeland Security to check all cargo containers entering the United States for nukes and stuff. That’s one of the votes that counted as “liberal” in the study.
Then there’s his vote to establish a Senate Office of Public Integrity to handle ethics complaints against senators. Wow! The man’s an out-and-out Bolshevik.
There’s more on this matter HERE.
