Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

John McCain is out with the first TV advertisement of the general-election season

As Howard Dean said himself….”The real issue is this,” Dean said in March 2004, when endorsing formal rival Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., “Who would you rather have in charge of the defense of the United States of America, a group of people who never served a day overseas in their life, or a guy who served his country honorably and has three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star on the battlefields of Vietnam?” We salute you POW Mccain.

The real issue this year is whether you want a guy who can’t distinguish Sunni from Shiite in charge of the defense of the United States of America. John McCain merits your salute and mine for his military service to his country, but that service doesn’t qualify him for the presidency. The guy is unstable. He’s all over the place on every issue. He’s for certain stuff and then against it. Or against certain stuff and then for it. The Republicans made a big deal four years ago about John Kerry’s flip-flops. Kerry’s a piker compared to McCain. Man, I can’t wait until Obama gets McCain in a debate. It’s going to be a disaster for Mr. Straight Talk.

Agreed. The debate will be on the level of Nixon Kennedy 1960 with all the chips on the line. Nixon had the 3′oclock shadow, Mccain will have his 1000 year old wrinkly craggy face.

I believe Pat’s comment referred McCain’s lack of understanding the situation in Iraq. Not appearances. I’ll really enjoy economic questions, because McCain doesn’t have a clue. Obama is smarter, better educated, and understands the issues far better than McCain. Or questions about all the lobbyists in McCains campaign (while he has decried the undue influence lobbyists have in American politics). He should be held in the highest regard for his service to the country, but that doesn’t mean squat when running for president.
