Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

His name was Chris Hake, and he was the 4,000th (or close to it)  U.S. military-service person killed in the Iraq war.

HERE’s a little about him.

I remember going to “The Wall” in DC many years ago with my family. I came across the name of someone I knew. He wasn’t a special friend or anything, in fact, I never actually liked him that much. He was just someone I knew 25 years earlier. But, as I stepped back from his name I burst into tears. I realized every damn name on that wall was someone somebody knew.

Well said hokumboy. It makes Bush’s recent comments glorifying war and how much he’d like to be on the frontlines that much more infuriating. There’s nothing glorious about war. Most of the people I know who have seen real action don’t like to talk about it. They know how terrible it it.

We are honored that such a brave soldier would lay down his life in serving the safety needs of all US citizens, as well as liberating people he doesn’t even know.

Our mission in Iraq is critical, and unfinished. This young man gave his life serving the oath he pledged in serving our country. For that I will always be thankful.
