Comments on: Are we ready for another Herbert Hoover?

Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don't say you weren't warned. By the way, this blog's name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, "All politics is applesauce."

Mike, I'm not saying it's my position, just that it's a possible interpretation of the Constitution. Let's face it, crazier things have come down from the Supreme Court.

And let's face it, Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan were both ineligible to run for third terms ... 'cause that's what the Constitution says. Does it make sense? They were both popular figures who, arguably, could have won third terms. For that matter, why the age limit?

So, if though some sort of "end - times miracle " John McCain gets elected President, and The Rapture happens, does Lieberman become President?

But nobody born more than 6,000 years ago -- no matter where -- can win the Republican presidential nomination, because them folks don't think the world is any older than that and they don't want the age of their nominee to confuse them.

Bob,
inversely, a child born in the US to foreign born parents who are here illegally could become President.

C'mon, everybody, let's not deny McCain his rightful citizenship. Let's not do anything that would deny him the Republican presidential nomination. The guy is our Dream Candidate. He's going to be easier to beat than Goldwater was. No, make that easier to beat than Herbert Hoover was.

Lets see if I have this burning issue right Bob, a child born to two US citizens on foreign soil because his father is serving in the US Military is ineligible to become the President? Good luck with that.

It's not a question of whether he's a citizen. Of course he is. So is Arnold Schwarzenegger - but he's not eligible to be president because he's a naturalized citizen, not natural-born.

Whether you like it or not, Kaus, some legal scholars believe that only those people born within the 50 states are able to serve as president. Not territories, not canal zones, not even Washington, D.C., but one of the 50 states.
