Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

The reasoning HERE, based on a recent public-opinion poll and on exit polls in primary contests, is a little complicated, but not so much that the central point is not clearly made.

The Washington Post, a bastion of liberalism in the opinion of people who don’t actually read it, is getting in the habit of publishing astonishingly sexist columns.
A few weeks back, there was a big fuss over THIS.
And now we have THIS.

So, this 22-year-old guy in Miami Beach runs his so-called business out of a little office with no sign on the door, and guess what?
He gets a contract from the Pentagon for three hundred million freaking dollars ($300,000,000) to supply stuff to the Afghan army.
He’s just 22, man. And this dude’s got a police record and all, but, hey, no problem. And the stuff he’s peddling to the Afghans is mostly outdated crap he’s scavenged from here and there. Just junk, y’know.
No lie. Check it out HERE. Pretty cool, huh?Â
But one bad thing, man. Yeah, the 300 mil is our bread — y’know, like taxpayers’ dough. Bummer.

THIS would be funny if the subject weren’t so tragic.

Actor Richard Widmark, who went to high school in Princeton, Ill., about 90 minutes down the road from Rockford, has DIED  at age 93.
If you’ve never seen it, make a point of catching Widmark’s movie debut in “Kiss of Death.” His character is unforgettably evil.
Despite his screen image, Widmark is said to have hated guns and violence. He also hated the Hollywood scene and jealously guarded his privacy.

THIS GUY, an economist, says the latest report from the Social Security Trustees shows that the system’s “actuarial balance has been improving rather than worsening.”
But, of course, we still can expect some Republicans to argue that the system needs a radical overhaul or perhaps abandonment.
John McCain once even SAID that “we stop paying Social Security” in the year 2042, if something isn’t done to save the system. But that’s not true.
