OK, the issue is settled. Barack Obama is definitely getting my vote if only because he promises to at least consider getting RID OF THE PENNY.
We waste countless billions of dollars every year fooling around with pennies. They cost more to produce than they’re worth, they clutter up our lives, they reduce productivity. A penny saved is not a penny earned. It’s time and space and lots of other things wasted.
Yeah, I’m a big fan of Abe Lincoln, but I don’t think his legacy will be diminished if we get rid of the penny, which has borne his likeness for lo these 99 years.
It’s slightly dated, but Time magazine had a good piece about the penny a few years ago (HERE).
(Incidentally, I’ve been too busy or too lazy to find out where Hillary Clinton and John McCain stand on the penny. But, it doesn’t matter. I was going to vote for Obama anyway.)
