Wesley Snipes case puts the lie to the wacky theory that there is no law requiring you to pay income taxes

Actor Wesley Snipes, who was SENTENCED the other day to three years in prison for tax evasion, had subscribed to the nutty theory that there is no law requiring you to pay income taxes.
This theory is often heard on talk radio, and I once interviewed a GUY whose passionate belief in it landed him in the pokey on more than one occasion.

Seems to be an unending supply of crazy tax advice. My wife’s cousin was peddling this nonsense and is now in a Federal lock up as a result. There are numbskulls to the left and right on this issue.

Your wife’s cousin is in the slammer on a federal rap? Gosh, this means you can never run for president, Bob. Guilt by association, y’know. You might as well be related to Bill Ayers.

Yeah, relatives are hard to disown, but we’ve made the consistent decision to distance ourselves from the cousin. We’ve never developed the habit of sitting still for his hateful rants, having him introduce us to his crowd of ner-do-wells or soliciting cash from his corrupt friends. I will have to admit, he sure talks a good game–even if it didn’t add up. You know what they say–lay down with dogs, wake-up with fleas.
