Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

OK, let’s give this thing a try.

I’m going out for a while, so you’re free to engage one another here on whatever subjects you like.

But play nice, please.

    Question for Liberals-
Since your team opposes building new refining capacity as well as oil exploration both on and off shore in the US, please explain to me how a Democrat would “solve” the energy shortage and reduce the cost of gasoline?
I will be in a meeting at work so don’t expect an immediate response to what will no doubt be brilliant suggestions.
I hope that is nice enough Pat.

Reduce the cost of gasoline is easy….get rid of the surcharge the government takes from every gallon. Ooops, can’t happen with Pelosi in office.

Mike…Thanks for clarifying where conservatives stand on this issue…I had a feeling and now I know that the conservative position is to create environmental havoc through on and off shore drilling for a finite amount of fossil fuels. I don’t have a quick answer to “solve” the energy shortage but I would say in the meantime we’d be wise to practice serious conservation and encourage, (no, not encourage - rather require) significant research and development into alternate energy options. and…Kaus…I’m not sure about the surcharge from the Feds, but for the state gas taxes, even though we may not like them we do like good, safe roads and streets so I’m not ready to oppose gas taxes.

Oh, and here is a list of Rockford Area Bloggers if anyone is interested.

It is hard to find them via Google so I started a list. Add your blog in the comments.

Post 3…..does this mean that this paper is not fair and balanced? All the blogs are left leaning? Gee what a shock. Rockford is a blue state supported by a blue corrupt governer and Obama the Senator who won his seat through conspiracy. Poor Jack Ryan never stood a chance against the evil political machine.

    You said “anything” right?

Nothing profound here, just a few “suggestion box” entries collected for RRstar.com in general and are not directed and anyone specifically. Feel free to forward on, place of refrigerator, delete, bronze, hard bound, or flame this suggestion post. We can take it.

    1. How about not trying to sneak stories from 500 or 5000 miles away into the front page of RRstar.com as though they occurred in Rockford. You might try a separate area for items that have nothing to do with Rockford at all. Not that stories like “buffalo spotted in river” isn’t interesting, but when it’s for somewhere in Missouri or “Blink-and-ya-miss-it” Kansas and not Rockford, people feel “tricked”. (Buffalo story was fabricated for this example and no endangered animals were harmed in the posting of this comment)

    2. Please give a hug the person who posts the weather forecast on the front page. They appear to need it as their cup is always “half empty”. A forecast of 5 sunny and 70 degree days in a row is usually overshadowed by a 30% chance of “sprinkles” on the 6th day. “Enjoy is while it lasts” and “return of dreary skies” are not comments people like to read first thing in the morning. Take pessimism out of the media?? - I know, we’re crazy.

    3. Full page ads where a dog takes over the front page and renders the screen, mouse and browser incapacitated has undoubtedly led to the demise of computer peripherals. I won’t name the guilty company, but because of that add most of us in the office would use anyone EXCEPT them.

If you were an Obama supporter NOW would be a good time to absent yourself from the news wouldn’t it.

Barack Obama is currently in the act of disowning the guy whom he previously said “I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community.”

This would be the first example of Obama actually embracing the word CHANGE. Once that starts no telling where it’ll end. Maybe Rezko and Ayers will follow along.

Jon-Thank you for clarifying the Liberal position on how to solve the energy shortage. If I understand you correctly, the answer is to discourage any supply or market based solution, demand research in alternative energy sources through government directed programs ( which have obviously been successful to date) and “practice” serious conservation (I’ll give up my car right after you Jon).
Yes Jon, you have found me out. Not only do I want to create environmental havoc I want to devastate the wilderness and shoot Bambi in the process.

Pat, I think you’d enjoy John Walkenbach’s J-Walk Blog. Like you, John runs an interesting blog and is wrong about nearly everything. :-)

Thanks, Tom. I’ll check him out.
