Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Rezko witness says plan was for Hastert to pick a hack to replace prosecutor Fitzgerald

Last week, I passed along a REPORT that a potential witness in the Tony Rezko corruption trial was prepared to testify about efforts involving the White House to get U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald fired.

Now we have TESTIMONY from another witness to the effect that the plan was for Fitzgerald to be succeeded by a hack chosen by then-House Speaker Dennis Hastert and that said hack would kill the federal investigation of Rezko’s questionable activities.

This strikes me as a pretty slender reed but I’ll keep an open mind which will distinguish me from most contributors to this site.

Hey, I’m only passing along this Rezko stuff. As Rhett Butler said: Frankly, I don’t give a damn. (He actually said “Frankly, my dear…,” but I’m not gonna use that term with you, Mike.)

Hey Sauce, don’t you think it’s noteworthy that some people wanted to be rid of Patrick Fitzgerald–but no one actually did it? Could it be that the beloved Bush administration wants nothing to do with efforts to excuse corruption–especially that which might have been done by a party signified by half-breed horse?

Bob: As I’ve explained before, Fitzgerald’s appointment as special prosecutor in the Valerie Plame case made him pretty much politically immune from firing.

I understand that but what’s the motivation to fire Fitzgerald in order to help Rezko?

Dead end on that one eh?

The apparent motivation, Bob, would be to put an end to some of Fitz’s investigations of corruption among certain Illinois Republicans and Democrats in alike.
