Who was the politician who faulted George W. Bush for chumming with “racist” and “anti-Catholic” evangelists?

Give up?
Well, it was this guy:

Throwing stones at Bush just reminds us of the fact that Obama-opiate-of-the-people chums around with racists and marxists.
Too bad you threw out Hillary with the bathwater, you have no other candidates.
2. Kaus | May 1st, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Do you have any videos where McCain hung around with racists? No. All you can show is a Hagee endorsement? So what. Obama got an endorsement from Hamas and Farakahn. Hagee looks pretty good in that group.
3. Pat Cunningham | May 1st, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Kaus: Obama neither sought nor welcomed the endorsements from Hamas and Farrakhan. McCain did both in the case of Hagee. Do you understand the difference there? No, I don’t figure you do. The issue here is about McCain faulting Bush for doing what McCain is now doing himself — chumming with bigots. As for videos of McCain hanging around with racists, I might be able to find one of him with Jesse Helms. How about Strom Thurmond? Trent Lott?
4. Kaus | May 1st, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Hagee is nothing…..he’s formerly appologized for his comments regarding Catholics. Don’t you think something is wrong when terrorists endorse you (welcome or not).
Working with Helms and Thurmond and Lott…hmmm…throw in Byrd while your at it…so what…Senators Clinton and Obama have to work with those same individuals.
The litmus test is: writing a book about your adoration for Marxist friends like Frederick, your mentoring from father figure Wright, and your kick off rally at an anarchist’s home.

Kaus: You ask, “Don’t you think something is wrong when terrorists endorse you (welcome or not).” Let me ask a similar question: Don’t you think something is wrong when a raging neo-Nazi endorses you (welcome or not)? Well, notorious neo-Nazi Don Black endorsed George W. Bush for president in 2004. That doesn’t make Bush a neo-Nazi himself, does it? Of course not, and I would never suggest that it does. Why can’t you apply the same standard of decency, Kaus, in the case of Obama being endorsed by people whose philosophies and statements he clearly rejects? Why is that, Kaus? To borrow words famously used by Joseph Welch to put Joe McCarthy in his place 54 years ago: Have you no sense of decency, Sir, at long last?

“Endorsement” ?twisted by FAUX News ,
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeffrey-feldman/mccain-launders-foxs-lie_b_99071.html
“This weekend, Fox News and John McCain tried to convince voters that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) was “endorsed” by Hamas — a lie created by Fox News….
The real story, however, may be that Sen. McCain’s campaign laundered a false Fox story by running it through his campaign, giving voters a false impression about the story’s veracity.
On Apr 16 Fox News reported that Hamas had “endorsed” Sen. Obama. Two days later, Sen. McCain sent out a mass email echoing the Fox story. Fox then reported McCain’s letter and — voila! The original false story had become “real” news.
…”

Good catch, unmanager. I hadn’t seen that. But I can’t imagine Fox just creating crap out of thin air. Just this afternoon, a commenter elsewhere on this blog lauded Fox for “providing middle America with a pro-American outlook on the news.” And this guy was serious.
Pretty funny, huh?

Sauce, you’re conducting a noble effort to equate McCain with anti-Catholic sentiment. Unfortunately, it just isn’t catching hold. I feel your pain–you want this as much as anything. I think I know why. it’s because the country wants to have that racial dialog that Obama seemed to call for in his speech in Philadelphia. That’s what the Rev. Wright business is–that dialog.
9. Pat Cunningham | May 1st, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Wrong, Bob. I’ve never accused McCain of sharing the philosophies of John Hagee — at least not since he began to categorically reject some of Hagee’s more offensive statements. What I’m pointing out is the hypocrisy of McCain’s campaign operatives and supporters smearing Obama with the Rev. Wright stuff — even after Obama repeatedly disowned that stuff. The video above also shows hypocrisy. McCain faulted Bush for his coziness with a few of the more bigoted characters on the Religious Right, but now he sees nothing wrong with playing patty-cake with similar characters. McCain said he wouldn’t have appeared at Bob Jones University as Bush did. But five years later, he appeared at Falwell’s school — the same Falwell he had previously labeled an “agent of intolerance.” It’s the hypocrisy, Bob.

Some of the posters seem to have forgotten that it was Jerry Falwell who told Reagan to ignore the impending AIDS crisis because it was “God’s punishment for gays.” (Real compassionate!) He also equated ALL Muslims with terrorists, regardless of their background. (Real understanding!) It was Pat Robertson who asked his followers, via the 700 Club, to pray for the death or incapacitation of two U.S. Supreme Court justices so that George Bush could replace them with (ultra)conservatives. (Real patriotic!) He also asked his followers to pray for the assassination of a South American leader. (Real humanitarian!) And let us not forget the greatest of all fundamentalist religious leaders, Fred Phelps. He protests at the funerals of fallen service people and humiliates their families by holding up signs saying the loved one died because of U.S. tolerance of gays. (Love thy neighbor!) There is no doubt Rev. Wright is a jackass. But he is hardly the only one we have. The Religious Right provides us with an abundant supply.
11. Menlo Bob | May 2nd, 2008 at 1:10 am
Word has it that Rev. Wright is pissed at being dissed by Obama and would like to set the record straight. Rev. Wright is set to reveal that for the past 20 years Obama indeed has been exposed to the same Rev. Wright we saw at the NAACP convention and the National Press Club. And that Obama has been lying about this knowledge. Stand back…this is gonna get uglier. The hypocracy is about to hit the fan.

Unmanager–I can’t possibly follow the logic displayed on HuffPo relative to Hamas. It seems quite clear that a representative for Hamas did indeed wish for an Obama victory. So maybe he didn’t use the word endorsement, but a lot of people came to that conclusion.
13. ROTStar | May 2nd, 2008 at 3:00 am
Yea, then he provided four Newspaper stories ranging from the Guardian UK to the NY Times to the Tribune that all claimed Fox had a pro-American point of view.
Go figure — wonder how they all got it so wrong. This guy must be a real dupe for believing the stuff they print.

That “conclusion” is the result of media bias…note Bush seeking an endorsement from Bob Jones U.(as criticized by McCain), 8 years later, HE seeks that endorsement…
In the case of Obama/Hamas…(same link)…
“For his part, Obama criticized former President Jimmy Carter’s decision to meet with Hamas, telling Jewish leaders Wednesday that “Hamas is not a state, Hamas is a terrorist organization.”
“We must not negotiate with a terrorist group intent on Israel’s destruction,” Obama said. “We should only sit down with Hamas if they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel’s right to exist, and abide by past agreements.” “
15. Menlo Bob | May 2nd, 2008 at 8:29 am
Agreed. Obama doesn\’t support Hamas. But then, no one said otherwise.
16. Kaus | May 2nd, 2008 at 8:33 am
Obama publicly rejecting and renouncing things AFTER they come to light in the media doesn’t carry a lot of weight. Obama already wrote 2 books hinting at his affection for Marxism. Perhaps he is marxist -lite and not a full blown Castro lover….perhaps he isn’t a racist but he spent 20 years around one that is….Obama should have renounced BEFORE he started campaigning….not after he got caught.
Nixon, Billy Graham and anti semitism? Good article Pat. However, Graham didn’t say this publicly to his congregation in church. And this is truly a sound bite….personal conversation….it is still wrong….but apparently anti-semetic comments are very prevalent in the democratic party (Mr. Himeytown Jackson comest to mind).
Hamas endorsed Obama…that doesn’t make Obama a terrorist lover, but it certainly doesn’t make me feel comfortable that terrorists are rooting for him….what is wrong with THIS picture…do I really have to explain?
17. Pat Cunningham | May 2nd, 2008 at 9:34 am
“Anti-semitic comments are very prevalent in the Democratic Party.” Where’s your evidence of that, Kaus. All you’ve got is one remark from Jesse Jackson. That’s not “very prevalent.”
18. Kaus | May 2nd, 2008 at 10:07 am
Cynthia Mckinney is my all time favorite example of a Democrat….should I keep going?
19. Craig Knauss | May 2nd, 2008 at 10:20 am
And “Reverend” Fred Phelps is my all time favorite example of a neo-con Republican.
20. Kaus | May 2nd, 2008 at 10:41 am
Of course Fred Phelps never held office in Washingtod did he Craig? No…he didn’t. He was even disbarred from practicing law. As Pat would say…”do your homework”
21. ROTStar | May 2nd, 2008 at 5:52 pm
You really need to do some homework. Not only is Phelps NOT a Republican — the man repeatedly ran for office as a Democrat and was a delegate for Gore — he supported Saddam which is as far from neo-con as you can get.
Fred Phelps:

So, is this how we\’ll spend the next six months? My wacko is better than your wacko? For me the bottom line question is: How much has Obama\’s thinking been influenced by Rev. Wright — who is not someone who visited him from time to time, but was his *pastor* for heaven\’s sake.

Poetryman, why don’t you write a beautiful poem about how Obama is going to fix ‘all of the above’. Entitle the poem “Clueless’
