In order to fill their time, they cover all kinds of stories of dubious newsworthiness, and they offer endless prattling by people of marginal or nonexistent expertise. The anchorpeople usually are awful and often seem to have been hired strictly for their looks. There's also a tendency of late among news channel anchors to act out the stories they're reporting with contrived emotions and facial expressions. Dan Abrams at MSNBC and Rick Sanchez at CNN are especially egregious offenders in that regard. Don't get me started on this stuff, Mr. B. I'm old, and I'm cranky.
