Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Is this politically prudent?

John McCain gave a SPEECH today on climate change, seeking to distance himself from President Bush on this issue and calling for new limits on greenhouse-gas emissions.

I can’t figure the upside for McCain here.  I don’t think he can out-green Barack Obama in the fall campaign, and he’s running the risk of alienating the sizable portion of the Republican base comprised of global-warming deniers.

In fact, in the new TV spot below, he refers to those skeptics as an “extreme” element that “denies the problem even exists.” Is he asking for trouble?

I guess I’ll just have to give him credit for saying the right thing, politics be damned. (No! What am I saying?  It’s never politics be damned. It must be a strategy of some kind, a pitch for independents or something.)

Pat-It’s simply McCain sticking to his principles regardless of the consequences. He calls himself an Environmentalist like his hero Teddy R. I don’t agree with him BTW but it is definitely McCain being McCain.

His pitch for global warming added to his catering to the Spanish Speaking voters makes him a force to be taken seriously. I don’t think he is going to lose Republican voters because……he wants capitalist private venture to pick up the pace on global warming initiatives instead of government taxed initiatives….makes me want to buy more British Petroleum Stock tocay!

If McCain were so enviromentalist, what support has he given to government investment in alternative fuel sources and alternative automobiles? NONE!! Not only has he not proposed or supported it, his latest idea, “Gas Tax Holiday” is nothing but a ploy to get the American people to buy more gas thereby putting more money in the coffers of his oil industry supporters. And all the while he gets to say that he has done something for the American consumer. McCain green? Not a chance, only so far as it will get you to vote for him.
