This is almost painful to watch
May 15th, 2008 at 07:19pm Pat Cunningham
I’m no fan of Chris Matthews, but the job he did tonight on a raving right-wing radio blabber was one for the books.
Matthews was almost too cruel and too relentless in humiliating Kevin James, who likes to spout off about historical analogies — specifically in attempts to denigrate Barack Obama — without knowing anything about the history to which he alludes.
And James did himself no favors by constantly shouting.
Watch it:

I agree with you Pat. I’m also no fan of Chris Mathews but he really cut that guy a new one.

Painful, but fun none the less!

Legitimizing someone like Matthews is a joke. You do realize that his show (and MSNBC in general) has such tank-worthy ratings that it doesn’t even register a blip on the American psyche…

Actually, CR, Matthews is influential beyond his meager ratings. He’s a must-view among the chattering classes. I don’t like him, but I don’t deny that he can be a force.

CR - You are wrong about MSNBC. Just this week Olbermann and Bill O. were a draw in the ratings. So what is wrong with Matthews, besides low ratings. I’m guessing he is too liberal for you.

It’s amazing how one bad decision can change people’s perceptions of greatness….Poor Neville Chamberlain had an outstanding career. There were a lot of factors in determining his decision to let go of Czechozlavakia…not enough resources to take on Hitler….Bush took the other extreme in plunging in without thinking which is even worse than ‘appeasement’…which Neville didn’t really do. Jimmy Carter on the other hand is doing something that goes beyond appeasement.
Good post Pat. Embarassing to all Republicans. However, Chris could have nipped it a little earlier. Painful.

Embarassing to all Republicans?! Hardly. Chris Matthews gets this moron Kevin James (who btw I’ve never heard of) on the show and then destroys him to show that the Right is clueless. I’d like to see him debate an intelligent conservative talk radio host like Michael Medved. Would he play history gotcha with a liberal? or a woman or minority? No, conservative white men are the only ones who have to play that game. If they know the answer they get nothing. If they don’t then they get humiliated on national tv.

Too liberal, not really. Incredibly silly and irresponsible, yes. Matthews is just simply a nutball, it amazes me that you’d think otherwise. If his ratings don’t make it obvious that he doesn’t resound with the vast majority of people then what does?
MSNBC’s ratings are consistently in the basement along with losers like CNBC and Headline News - usually under 50% of the viewers watching Fox and (gasp!) CNN. And comparing the ratings of tools like Olbermann and O’Reilly as a supporting argument must be some sort of Matthews-esque logic?
Seriously though, it’s fun to be back in cyber-Rockford, with Pat Cunningham no less! Looks like your rug is finally out of the shop too! The twilight zone has nothing on us native Rockforders!

(Pat – I got that term from you my man! Hope it’s catching on in the new millennia.)

Message to Chris Matthews: when ripping a guest for his lack of historical knowledge, try to avoid making a history mistake of your own. After lambasting James, Matthews surmised that the attack on the USS Cole in October, 2000 happened under - President Bush. LOL!

Thank God for Fox News. I was just watching Special Report and finally saw McCain’s Hamas comments in context. The MSM (loud mouth liberal Matthews included) is making it look like McCain was in favor of meeting with Hamas without preconditions. They didn’t play the second part of the interview where he says that Hamas’ behavior will determine whether we meet with them. OMITTING IMPORTANT INFORMATION IS LYING!! And the liberal media is expert at the omissive lie.

CR: What “rug” are you talking about? Never had one. Never needed one. Granted, the pic is dated a bit. I’m grayer now. But no rug, no dye and no combover.
13. Henry | May 16th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
CR - I didn’t express an opinion about Matthews., so don’t tell me what I think. I opined that he is too liberal for your tastes. And if Bill O. is a ‘tool’ to someone of your ilk, what then, Sean Hannity? Or maybe you get your talking points from Republican water carriers Limbaugh or Liddy.
14. Kaus | May 16th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Kevin James…not even worthy enough to have ever appeared on Fox…not even a syndicated radio personality….of course MSNBC will take him in as the designated loser republican commentator speaking for ‘all republican voters’.
15. Pat Cunningham | May 17th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Kaus: Why did you put quotation marks around “all republican voters” when that is NOT how MSNBC billed Kevin James? Just makin’ up crap again, right? We’ve come to expect that of you.

A sarcasm mark or sarcasm point identifies text as being derogatory or ironic. But perhaps this is not an accepted form in a blog. Pat, you are the King of Journalism. What should I have used in this new-aged forum? Making stuff up? You mean like that bogus piece you copied on Mccain wanting to talk to Hamas?
