Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Hillary’s staying around because of RFK??

THIS is pretty tasteless, as if Clinton is waiting for somebody to shoot Barack Obama.

UPDATE: The more I think about this episode, the more I’m inclined to cut Hillary a little, but only a little, slack. (See Nos. 3 and 4 in the comments section.) I’m even willing to attribute her gaffe in part to exhaustion. But it was a terribly insensitive thing to say — not something that recommends her for handling that 3 a.m. phone call for which she claims to be ready.

POSTSCRIPT: Here are videos of Clinton’s potentially offensive remarks and her subsequent apology:

So, if an Obama tragedy happens, Hillary thinks she can say, “Good thing I hung around”? I don’t think so.

Right….the Breck Girl can carry the torch, right Tony?

You are totally taking this out of context. All that she is saying is that in the past, we have not had nominees until June. Plain and simple. Nothing to apologize for.

Leatherneck: Upon reflection, I think you’re right. But the words were horrendously ill-chosen, coming as they do just one week after Mike Huckabee joked about somebody pointing a gun at Obama. Hillary misspoke, but there still is good reason to question her refusal to quit the race.

You know the saying “it ain’t over ’til it’s over”. Maybe Obama should quit the race, so the party can unify.

Why should Obama quit? He’s ahead. She’s not. Get real.

After watching both here gaffe and her apology, I think she was articulating something that is in the back of her mind (that something horrible could happen to Obama). It says something about her character. She is obviously grasping for any possible justification to stay in the race. I’ve noticed her media coverage has dropped significantly since the last primaries, and the recent back and forth by Obama and McCain over foreign policy and the vote on the GI bill. She’s toast and it’s time for her to get out.

All candidates have gaffes…all should get a chance to correct themselves, but Hillary’s remarks were no mistake…she said the same thing in Time Magazine back on March 6. In addition, her Husbands race for Presdident was over in March not June. She lied…not a gaffe.
