Lots of toss-up states in McCain-Obama race
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:17am Pat Cunningham
Markos over at Daily Kos has DRAWN THE MAP pictured here, which shows 16 states (red) in John McCain’s column at this point and 14 states (blue) for Barack Obama.
The electoral votes from these states favor Obama by a count of 173 to 144. The 21 yellow toss-up states represent 221 electoral votes.Â
To win the presidency, 270 electoral votes are needed.

For what it’s worth, I’m not sure that Idaho is still that red. The Arian Nation moved to Alabama and Idaho’s famous toe-tapping senator is in deep trouble. Add the Iraq War, the slipping economy, and very high gas prices, and even the Mormons there are starting to sway. Add to that the fact that neighboring Montana has a very popular Democratic governor. That whole corner of the U.S. could go blue.
