Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

I want to be kind to John McCain here, but…

June 4th, 2008 at 10:06am Pat Cunningham

If last night was the start of the general election campaign, presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain can be said to have stumbled out of the gate.

McCain’s speech to a small crowd in New Orleans was so badly staged and poorly delivered — leaving aside its content — that even many a Republican partisan gave it poor reviews, as we see HERE and HERE.

Mr. Straight Talk’s awkwardness in dealing with the TelePrompters was just one of his problems.  He also had difficulty with his feigned smiles and chuckles, which seemed to have been scripted.

Check it out for yourselves:

That’s right, neither of the leftist candidates give staged speeches. They’ve never planted people of the right ‘color’ or ‘sex’ in the audience (especially behind the speaker). They’ve never uttered a tailored an accent or offered empty, vague rhetoric to their fawning automatons.

“American Idol” is such a befitting name for the times of this country, or where the collective ‘minds’ of the people of this country are. Pat illustrates this perfectly in his superficial attack on McCain.

During Obama’s speech last night I was going to drink a shot every time he used a meaningless hackneyed feelgood phase to describe what he planned to do as President. I’m glad I didn’t. I’d be dead. I was again forced to conclude that Barry’s an empty suit with no substance or plan.

Can you smell what Barack is cookin’?
Some fresh socialism. Just like Carter used to make!

He’s awful. There’s the candidate that the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Chronicle, Seattle Times and the Intelligencer, Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily News, Minneapolis Star Tribune, St. Louis Post Dispatch, Miami Herald, Dallas Morning News, Washington Post and Boston Globe — picked to represent the Republican Party. It’s journalistic malpractice if the word has any meaning.

I’m sorry Bob, I have taken Pat to task for being in denial; now I think you are sounding that way. Those newspapers did NOT pick your nominee…the VOTERS did. I mean, I thought Republicans were universally “hip” to the “liberal” media. You mean they couldn’t see through the “cabal” to select the weakest R candidate? Come on, where is the “personal responsibility” Republicans want to talk about.

Ding, ding! Buzz, buzz! Clang, clang! Attention one and all! We have a winner of our Oxymoron of the Month Award! In Comment No. 3 (above), Millard Fillmore used the words “Republicans” and “hip” in the same sentence. Awesome! This truly is an historic week.
