Hillary: “Yes we can!”
Add comment June 7th, 2008
Hillary Clinton adopted some of Barack Obama’s trademark verbiage today as she suspended her own campaign and vowed to “work my heart out” to help get the Illinois senator elected president.
My own informal survey of reactions on TV and in the blogosphere suggests that the speech was pretty well-received all around. Even Pat Buchanan called it “magnificent.”
HERE’s the text of Clinton’s speech (complete with designations of audience applause).
POSTSCRIPT: Please, don’t let’s have it said that Hillary has “only suspended” her campaign, as if she’s waiting in the wings for Obama to get chased away for one reason or another.
For one thing, there’s a legal reason why she’s only suspending. That strategy allows her to continue raising funds to retire her campaign debt.
For another thing, the technical status of her campaign would not be a consideration if the party had to find a different nominee.
In other words, there’s nothing nefarious about the suspension.
