Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Obama is from Mars

From time to time, I’m given here to mocking some of the more exceedingly crazy rumors about Bararck Obama one sees flying around the Internet these days.

This effort has twice prompted me to use the headline “Obama Fathers Two-Headed Gay Terrorist Baby,” which I boosted from the Huffington Post.

Today, ever the scavenger, I bring you an item I picked up on some other blog that got it from some other site, where it no longer exists. It satirizes the kind of stuff that regularly circulates by e-mail among the lunatic fringe.

It reads:

“Obama is DEFINITELY a Martian, and therefore DEFINITELY NOT an American citizen.  I know because I know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who said they were almost positive they’d heard someone say so.”

Well, hell. That’s good enough for me. Let’s tell everyone we know.

So you’re saying he’s shifted from being a Muslim to being a Martian? Is that the sort of ‘Change we can believe in’?

They have global warming on Mars too….so apparently he needs Owl Gore as his Veep.

Kaus: Yeah, that global warming stuff is a lot of hooey. So is evolution. So is any scientific theory that goes against our Judeo-Christian beliefs or inhibits the spewing of greenhouse gases by our industries and their products.

Global warming is occurring on Mars is it not? I never said it was hooey…..perhaps what causes global warming can be debated.

I’m sure when Obama does indeed let gas prices rise even more (which he is on record for stating that it was a good thing) , our CO2 emmissions will fall a little on Earth….but we are talking about Mars now aren’t we?

Kaus, no doubt by now you’ve noticed the style of argument engaged in by the former editor of this paper. Any issue that doesn’t confirm his world view is subject to ridicule instead of honest debate.

Well now, Bob, my “style of argument” sufficed to put you in your place when you falsely accused me of writing about the suicide rate among vets of Iraq and Afghanistan. In that case, it was you who resorted to baseless ridicule “instead of honest debate.” One more thing: I am not THE former editor of this paper. I am A former editor. And none of the editorships I held amounted to THE editorship of all editorships. I was just a cog in the mighty machine.

Believe it or not, I have tremendous admiration for ANYONE that can publish their viewpoints for all the world to see, with their name, picture, and character on the line. This includes Pat and all the other editors of the Rockford Register Star.

May I remember that the next time I post a futile counterpoint to one of Pat’s presumed axioms. My appogies for crossing the line in the past.
