Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Lou Dobbs: Impeach Bush for bad tomatoes

CNN blabber Lou Dobbs, a peculiar fellow in many ways, has taken another small step toward needing the intervention of men in white coats.

Dobbs is proposing that President Bush be impeached for his administration’s failure to prevent the recent outbreak of salmonella from bad tomatoes.

No, really. That’s what he SAID.

Why the sudden interest in bin Laden?

Some of the young Americans who will be voting for the first time this November were only 10 years old when Osama bin Laden’s pals attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

By the time these kids were old enough to pay any attention to politics, bin Laden’s name had faded to roughly the same status accorded to also-rans on “American Idol.”

Even the most otherwise bellicose Republicans long ago lost interest in tracking down bin Laden, and the dude’s occasional release of taped statements have hardly registered a blip in years.

It got to the point where bin Laden’s low public profile brought to mind the old show-business line about a performer whose career had gone bust: He couldn’t get arrested.

It’s ironic, then, that the idea of arresting bin Laden is now suddenly a matter of great interest in some Republican quarters.

Let’s examine this phenomenon HERE.

Your “liberal” media in action — again

Gee, I wish the mainstream media would quit being SO TOUGH on John McCain. It’s unseemly.

Obama’s the most liberal senator? Not true! Not even close to true!

When the National Journal came out a few months ago with a “study” showing that Barack Obama was the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate in the current term, the mainstream media and the right-wing punditocracy unquestioningly ran with the story and have been running with it ever since.

Only a few intrepid souls such as I have dared to CHALLENGE the Journal’s methodology and conclusions, but to little avail in the face of the prevailing meme.

Ah, but now we have a more comprehensive study, one covering all the Senate votes in 2007-08, and it TURNS OUT  that Obama is only the 40th most liberal member.

It also turns out that John McCain has marched in almost perfect lockstep with the Bush administration, a record he’s trying desperately to disown.
