The presidential election is now just 135 days away, which means it’s time for you Applesauce visitors to make your fearless predictions on the outcome.
I’m looking for two guesses from each of you: 1) The respective percentages of the popular vote Barack Obama and John McCain will garner; and 2) The division of the 538 electoral votes between the two of them.
My prognostications: Obama will get 55.3 percent of the popular vote; McCain, 41.6 percent; other candidates, 3.1 percent. In the Electoral College, Obama will prevail by a margin of 334-204.
We’ll update our guesses on the 22nd of each succeeding month.

As every red-blooded, action-oriented American knows, the very idea of sitting down to talk with our country’s adversaries is strictly for wimps.
It’s downright “appeasement,” as President Bush patriotically puts it.
Which is why we have cause to be alarmed at RECENT STATEMENTS by Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who says that “a healthy dialogue with Iran” would help both countries “understand each other better.”
Healthy dialogue? Understand each other? What a weenie! I suppose he expects that we can all just sit around playing patty-cake and singing “Kumbaya.”
Why are there no real men in the Pentagon anymore? We might just as well elect Barack Obama president. He’s an appeaser, too.
