Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don't say you weren't warned. By the way, this blog's name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, "All politics is applesauce."

I'm not going to quibble about the unknowns in the loan itself, I didn't say that it was illegal--merely special--but the article you point to says that 'The Obamas were prominent public figures whose political futures depended in part on maintaining a reputation for responsibility and trustworthiness.' In Chicago? With Tony Rezko alongside? That cuts both ways; Could it be that the loan was good because they were politically connected? Now about the slum housing article...

Bob: Here's a devastating rebuttal of that WaPo hatchet job on what you call the "special deal" on Obama's mortgage: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/07/most-irresponsible-piece-of-journalism.html

Beware of anyone who says they are an expert on the economy. To his credit Senator Obama hasn't made that claim either. Apparently Sauce believes he is. Wonder if that has anything to do with the Obama's getting a <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/07/01/ST2008070103301.html" rel="nofollow">special deal</a> on their mortgage while presiding over <a href="http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/06/27/grim_proving_ground_for_obamas_housing_policy/?page=full" rel="nofollow">disastrous housing policies</a>.

Thanks for the link, Kaus. I didn't know about that, even though it was six weeks ago. "Pundit God from Rockford," eh? But I'm a benevolent deity. You'll get none of that fire-and-brimstone stuff from me.

It is sad when you have to pick every misinterperted word that one John McCain has to say when there is a whole library full of Obama quotes that are just as bad if not worse. I understand that you are as liberal as they come but please play fair because now you are not and your viewpoint is as unjust as they come. If you really would like to be heard then tell both sides so everyone can read your column without choking on your left wing antics. Thank you and please make the right decision.

I've got a better idea, Pat.

Let's leave Ben S. Bernanke and the rest of the Federal Reserve Board in charge of the economy, as they are now.

Presidents of both parties get vilified when the economy performs poorly and exalted when it performs well. Neither is justified.

Our President's limited ability to influence the economy is no match for the powerful and complex global forces that truly create the conditions we live in.
