Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Will Bob Costas take over “Meet The Press”?

It strikes me as a FASCINATING IDEA.

Yeah, Costas still looks boyish, but at 56 years of age, he’s seven years older than Brian Williams and only two years younger than Tim Russert was.  Moreover, he’s bright, articulate and seemingly inoffensive.

What do you  think?

Bob Costas should stay with sports, where he can continue play acting at serious work. His mugging and preening for effect during broadcasts undermines any ability to be taken seriously, in my opinion.

The success of Tim Russert was in his ability to ALWAYS be serious about serious matters. Bob Costas serious? Get serious!

I actually think it is a credible option. Costas hosts a Saturday morning radio show nominally about sports but the topics are broad and the guests are interesting. Some months ago he had Brian Williams on as the guest and it was a brilliant show.

This just might work. Reminds me of the suggestion from Howard Cosell when he was retiring from Monday Night football that ABC should consider putting Bill Cosby in the booth.
