Comments on: Republican Borling endorses Democrat Abboud over Manzullo for Congress

Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don't say you weren't warned. By the way, this blog's name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, "All politics is applesauce."

I commented on this issue here:

http://www.rrstar.com/opinions/x379978610/Region-trending-up-with-siren-OK-other-decisions

What we have here is still more evidence of the ideological bankruptcy of the so-called Democratic Party.

For the last 14 years, the local Democrats have more or less conceded our seat in the House of Representatives to Manzullo.

This was part of their deal with the local Republicans.

Local Democrats concede some legislative jobs, like those of Manzullo, Syverson, Wait, Winters, and Burzynski, to Republicans, while Republicans concede Jefferson's seat to the Democrats. This also goes on during elections at the city and county levels.

As a result of this sweetheart of a deal, we have two Republicans running for Congressman in our district, which is to say that local voters are faced with an echo and not a choice in this important election.

But the disenfranchisement of local voters by the two-party tyranny doesn't stop there.

In order to ensure their duopolistic control of the electoral process, Democraps and Republiscums also work together to make it almost impossible for independent or 3rd party candidates to get on the ballot.

For details, please see the Signature Requirements section on page 53 of the "Candidates Guide 2008" :
http://www.elections.state.il.us/Downloads/ElectionInformation/PDF/08CanGuide.pdf

As I wrote elsewhere, the only real choice in this election is running as the Green Party candidate. Take a look at Scott Summers' website
http://www.summersforcongress.com/S4Jhome.html
and you'll find plenty of good reasons to reject the race between Manzullo and Abboud as a fraud upon democracy.

Pat,

I never said any of them were "worthy politicians". I just mentioned their names as being generals who became presidents, i.e., got wrapped up in politics.

Ben: You're right that ACTIVE generals should not involve themselves in domestic politics. But Knauss is right that retired generals can be worthy politicians (although his mention of Grant in that regard is ill-chosen). Your remark, Ben, is a play on what Georges Clemenceau correctly observed (and which John McCain and others sometimes seem not to believe): "War is too important to leave to the generals."
