For the last 14 years, the local Democrats have more or less conceded our seat in the House of Representatives to Manzullo. This was part of their deal with the local Republicans. Local Democrats concede some legislative jobs, like those of Manzullo, Syverson, Wait, Winters, and Burzynski, to Republicans, while Republicans concede Jefferson's seat to the Democrats. This also goes on during elections at the city and county levels. As a result of this sweetheart of a deal, we have two Republicans running for Congressman in our district, which is to say that local voters are faced with an echo and not a choice in this important election. But the disenfranchisement of local voters by the two-party tyranny doesn't stop there. In order to ensure their duopolistic control of the electoral process, Democraps and Republiscums also work together to make it almost impossible for independent or 3rd party candidates to get on the ballot. But Knauss is right that retired generals can be worthy politicians (although his mention of Grant in that regard is ill-chosen). Your remark, Ben, is a play on what Georges Clemenceau correctly observed (and which John McCain and others sometimes seem not to believe): "War is too important to leave to the generals."
