This guy says Obama wants to bring back slavery
July 8th, 2008 at 12:54pm Pat Cunningham
Is there no limit to the idiocy of the Obama-bashers?
Jonah Goldberg (above), the conservative pundit who last week moronically impugned Barack Obama’s patriotism and lumped him with Marxist revolutionaries (see HERE), is now suggesting that the putative Democratic nominee wants to violate the constitutional amendment barring slavery.
Hilzoy over at Obsidian Wings handles the SMACKDOWN for us.
UPDATE: HERE’s another invocation of slavery by Obamaphobes.

Goldberg is indeed a moron. Most colleges and universities require some form of community service now for many degree programs. It gives the students some real life experience that many are lacking. Both of my daughters had to do it. It’s a shame that he considers this “slavery”. Maybe it’s because he’s a bit too wrapped up in himself.

Wow….I always knew this guy was a far right wingnut, but now he\’s ensconced himself in what Keith Olbermann calls the \"lunatic fringe\" arena, somewhere between Michelle \"Rachel Ray Wears Terrorist Scarves\" Malkin and Michael \"The Gay Mafia is After Me\" Savage. It\’s going to be quite entertaining to watch El Rushbo and the toadies at Fox News (an oxymoron, I know) follow them over the cliff as November draws closer and Obama starts to draw clear in the polls! get the popcorn ready!

For what it’s worth, many employers, such as mine, encourage their employees to perform some community service as well. They feel we should give back to the community. I perform various volunteer functions at the local public hospital, and occasional miscellaneous other duties. It’s truly sad that Goldberg regards this sort of thing in a negative way, which doesn’t say much for him.

“Encouraging” employees to do volunteer work is different than making them work….it wouldn’t be volunteer anymore. But in an Obama world, working for the government is good. Workers of the world unite! Viva Che.

You’re utterly hopeless, Kaus. You just don’t get it. Obama has said nothing about forcing people to work for the government who don’t want to work for the government. Try a remedial reading course, Kaus. It might help.

Kaus,
Pat’s right, it’s not required. And there is no requirement to apply for a government loan either. That’s voluntary as well. Besides, do you have something against performing some community service? Or do you believe helping your neighbors and/or community is some kind of commie plot? And here I thought you were one of those “pull yourselves up by the bootstraps” people. Community service is pretty important where I live now, and this place is so far right it makes you guys look socialist. Maybe YOU should trying performing a little community service for a change. The experience could do you a world of good.

Community Service is good. So is paying taxes for basic services. Volunteer work…Awesome! If a resume or education depends on volunteer work….again awesome! Forcing a real life experience…got a problem with that.

Kaus says, “Forcing a real life experience…got a problem with that.” When I was in my teens and early twenties, we had a program of “forced real life experience”. It was called “the draft”. Apparently you never had to worrry about that. I did. So did all my friends and relatives. I don’t see anything wrong with expecting people to give a little back to the society that they are taking from. Apparently you have a problem with that and a lot of things. Get help.

So Craig, what I’m getting out of this argument is that because you had no freedom of choice regarding the draft and I got to choose to volunteer, that is bad? And you are whining about it. Be a man. Admit that it is far better to volunteer than have the government force me to ‘volunteer’. You apparently feel very comfortable with the Government determining how much you owe to society…what a twisted concept.

Kaus says, “So Craig, what I’m getting out of this argument is that because you had no freedom of choice regarding the draft and I got to choose to volunteer, that is bad?” No it’s not. I had that choice too. And DID you volunteer? No you didn’t. And have you ever volunteered for anything? Probably not. Yes, it’s better to volunteer than be conscripted. But now YOU be a man and admit that we all owe something to society, instead of just sucking the life out of it. Or is that twisted too? I hope you’re not really that self-centered. If you are, you’re truly pathetic.

We all owe something to society Craig. But apparently you want to hold everyone to your standard of what that means. That sounds like the true definition of self centered. If you do donate your time to community service with a joyful heart, then you are a good steward Craig. If you feel you have to make everyone give as much as you, and brag about it, then you are doing it out of self pride.
I donate money and time to people that I expect nothing in return for. My whole point is that it should be freedom of choice.
