Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

I might change my name to Lawrence

Yeah, why not? After all, it says HERE that I live in the “Saudi Arabia of the Wind.”

Besides, I can dig the flowing white threads. And if I got a camel, I could beat that whole gas-price thing.

Wait a minute. Do camels eat a lot? A lot of what — sand?

I live in a part of the country that has one of the largest number of wind generators. Believe me, no one wants to live anywhere near these creaking oil derricks for wind. T. Boone Pickens is dreaming. Nuclear power is where it’s at.

Wonder how much crude energy Jesse Jackson could generate?

I think I’m going to install one of those wind turbines on the comments section of this blog. I’ll make millions. (No offense to you, Bob. This was just a convenient spot to use that witticism.)

Patrick-Speaking of hot hair, I’m just back from a business trip to Seattle and just saw the news re the federal wire tap legislation. Looks like your candidate continues to flip faster than a pancake at IHOP. Now that’s change we can believe in.

Mike: Obama told the movement lefties a long time ago that he would push for their amendments, didn’t expect them to pass and would vote for the final bill without them because a flawed bill is better than no bill. The lefty bloggers are made as hell at him, but where are they going to go? The general public doesn’t know squat about FISA, so they’re not going to hold it against Obama. As far as I’m concerned, there are only so many issues about which I can get my undies in a bunch, and FISA ain’t one of them. Perhaps I should care, but I don’t. Now, I’d appreciate it if you would concentrate your efforts on feeding the Social Security Trust Fund to help pay for my retirement before the Republicans screw the whole thing up. (What am I saying? The Republicans will lose seats this fall, and McCain will lose the presidential election. So I needn’t worry. In which case, you can slack off a bit, if you’d like.)

Correction: I shouldn’t have said Obama told the lefties “a long time ago.” Rather, it was a week or two ago, as I recall.

Pat-one of two things, either he is tacking to the right to capture all those bible reading gun clingers or, perhaps, he has started to think a few things through including the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. I hope it is the latter.
The FISA vote was the correct vote by the way.
I am going to stay with it for awhile as I like to think of you as on my dole and thus beholden.

T Bone Pickens….an oil man that has just made a 300 million investment in wind energy. DUH….of course he is going to talk a big game with the benefits of wind.

But, If he could afford to buy and build nuclear plants he’d be talking up nuclear power as the real solution to our problems. Wind energy is nickle dime…worse than waiting 10 years for more oil pumping in the USA.

I don’t know where Menlo Bob lives, but I also live in a part of the country that has a considerable number of wind farms, SE Washington. We have a ridiculous amount of wind and subsequently wind turbines are on a number of our hills. They belong to Energy Northwest, our local power company, who also owns the Columbia Generating Station (nuke plant) just north of town. To date, I’ve heard only minimal complaints about them. Most of the complaints are about the skyline. While they are pretty sleek and stylish, they do look rather foreign to the landscape. Their operating cost per kilowatt is higher than most nuke plants, but probably lower than most fossil fuel plants, especially those that burn fuel oil. Also the wind turbines can be constructed in a very short period of time as opposed to a nuke plant, which can take as much as 20 years (permitting, engineering, design, construction, start-up). Personally, I prefer nuclear power and was involved in commercial nuclear projects for 10 years before moving out west.
