Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Now, here’s a truly articulate politician!

I don’t see his response as inarticulate. He was faced with a question that was unexpected, and was surprised by it. So, he carefully chose his words and stated, honestly, that he didn’t know enough about that particular subject to give an opinion.

It was a thoughtful, smart answer, honest answer.

“Thoughtful, smart answer, honest answer”? Are you kidding? Twice in the past five years, McCain has voted against legislation requiring insurance plans that cover prescription drugs to also cover birth control. Now, faced with a question about whether that’s fair, he had two choices in terms of a straight answer. He could say that it is, in fact, unfair, which would represent a flip-flop from his votes. Or he could say it’s not unfair, which would cost him votes among some women. Instead, he hemmed and hawed and finally claimed that he didn’t know enough about the issue. He VOTED on the issue, but he doesn’t know enough about it? Yeah, that’s a smart answer.

Hey, don’t try that French stuff here, Charlie. We serve only freedom fries here. We’re Francophobes to the core.
