Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal virtually bowed out today as a potential running mate with John McCain, and another governor, Tim Pawlenty (above) of Minnesota, became the subject of intense speculation regarding the Republican veep slot.
HERE’s the story.
POSTSCRIPT: Who had this to say about the kind of person Mr. Straight Talk should choose for a running mate?:
“What I’m afraid of is that if Sen. McCain picks one more relatively boring, normal, mainstream Republican white guy… he just makes the ticket seem boring compared to the level of energy and drive and excitement that Obama has.”
Give up? Want a hint? He’s a former speaker of the U.S. House.
The answer is in the first entry in the comments section.

This is weird.
Mars, Inc., the manufacturer of Snickers candy bars and other junk foods, is out with a NEW TV AD that features a violent attack on an obviously gay jogger.
The target audience for this trash would seem to be young males who fearfully have a loose grip on their own masculinity.
The faux violence in the ad, curiously enough, is performed by Mr. T, the has-been “actor” from a TV series of more than 20 years ago. Yeah, that’s pretty hip.
This is not the first time that Mars has run a homophobic ad.  The company  infamously did the same thing during a Super Bowl telecast of a few years back.
What in the world is wrong with these Mars people, you ask? Well, it SAYS HERE that members of the family are big-time benefactors of Republican causes. That explains a lot.

Is there no limit to the McCain camp’s willingness to SPREAD FILTH?
McCain is the guy who said this eight years ago when he was running against George W. Bush for the Republican presidential nomination: “I will not take the low road to the highest office in this land. I want the presidency in the best way, not the worst way.”
If the path he’s taking now is not the low road, one shudders to think what is.

Lots of folks in the hinterlands who don’t actually read The Washington Post think of the paper as part of the liberal conspiracy to lead America to disgrace and defeat in Iraq. Nothing could be further from the truth.
No, wait! Actually, some of the Post’s hawkish editorials on Iraq have have even less kinship with the truth, as we see HERE.
UPDATE: Steve Benen ably DECONSTRUCTS today’s editorial in the Post.

The World Health Organization is out with a study SHOWING that the United States leads the world by far in the use of marijuana and cocaine, despite comparatively strict laws against such drugs.
For example, 42 percent of Americans admit to having smoked pot, more than twice as many, proportionally, as in the Netherlands, where laws against marijuana are relatively lax.
The WHO study doesn’t address issues concerning the social and fiscal costs of the American war on drugs — crowded jails, strains on law enforcement, burdens on taxpayers, violence among drug gangs, etc.

George W. Bush, whose ranch in Crawford, Texas, was a political prop all along, is PLANNING to move to Dallas once his presidency is over.
