Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Makers of Snickers candy bars aim TV ad at guys who are secretly afraid they have gay impulses

This is weird.

Mars, Inc., the manufacturer of Snickers candy bars and other junk foods, is out with a NEW TV AD that features a violent attack on an obviously gay jogger.

The target audience for this trash would seem to be young males who fearfully have a loose grip on their own masculinity.

The faux violence in the ad, curiously enough, is performed by Mr. T, the has-been “actor” from a TV series of more than 20 years ago.  Yeah, that’s pretty hip.

This is not the first time that Mars has run a homophobic ad.  The company  infamously did the same thing during a Super Bowl telecast of a few years back.

What in the world is wrong with these Mars people, you ask? Well, it SAYS HERE that members of the family are big-time benefactors of Republican causes. That explains a lot.

    Whatever.

If you’re offended, then, don’t buy a Snickers bar.

This isn’t a conspired Right-Wing attack on our homosexual population. It’s a group of 20-something marketing department employees (at Mars, inc.) making an off-the-wall commercial.

    Please.

I’m guilty of time waste for even commenting on this.

The assumption of this person being gay is just that, an assumption.

I believe this is a stretch by the homosexual community to attempt to keep the focus on themselves and their agendas.

Sorry, Pat — I do not see it as being homophobic.

If anything, it is a knock against speed walkers versus real joggers.

In other words, this ad is a non-issue.

Yeah, it’s just an incredible coincidence that Snickers has had two commericals that might be seen as homophobic and that the Mars family is a bunch of “family values” right-wingers. Come on. That ad is an exercise in gay-bashing, clear and simple.

    It’s not.

But, it’ll really make the gay populace look good in attacking it. Code Pink!!!!!
