Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Will Barack Obama survive the “my committee” scandal that has rocked the political world?

This issue, which I addressed  in the comments section of a previous post, deserves stand-alone treatment.

Is that Photoshopped? Has anyone actually seen Obama anywhere near the United States Capitol recently? Here’s one showing the same photo but with the Capitol in a golden glow.

It might interest you to know that John McCain has missed 63 percent of the Senate votes in the current Congress, which makes him the leader in that category by a wide margin. Barack Obama has missed 44 percent of the votes. Check it out here:

Which is why it should be a requirement to resign one political office before running for another. Both these guys are stealing taxpayer money. Next time you hear a politician complain about the money, remember how easy it is for them to do nothing to earn it.

Thank goodness for the 27th Amendment, but an amendment requiring them to punch a time clock would be better.

“People of Berlin, people of the world, this is our moment. This is our time,” Silly me, I thought he was running for President of the United States. Too small a job for a man of his extensive experience evidently.
    The world needs him.

Yeah, wouldn’t it have been more fun to see McCain speaking in Berlin? The crowd no doubt would have numbered in the dozens. His handlers could have told him it was Altoona, and he wouldn’t have known the difference.

By the way, Mike, why do people like you resent Obama giving a speech in Europe? At least he fosters better feelings about our country abroad, which is a big task after what your hero W has done. You Obamaphobes can really be petty. But then, I can understand your frustration when the only alternative is McCain.

One more thing: Even I enjoyed this joke from Leno (I think): On his tour of Israel, Obama stopped in Bethlehem to visit his birthplace.

And where exactly did I say that I resent Obama giving a speech in Europe? I seem to remember a certain someone going fairly ballistic when he said that someone was trying to put words in his mouth.
No answer to my comment I see.

Mike: I concede your point. Sorry. But I don’t understand what you mean by “no answer to my comment I see.”

You are forgiven my son. Say 10 Our Fathers and 10 Hail Mary’s.
Send shivers down your spine doesn’t it.

My comment at 4 above is a commentary on the ego issue. I know anyone running for the Presidency has and needs a large, healthy ego but he does open himself up to the ego charge when he makes comments like the one above and I am not the only one who made a similar comment when he said those words. Heard the same thing at work.

Well, that settles it then. The water-cooler vote is in, and the verdict is that Obama’s rhetorical flourishes are too egotistical. Our next referendum at the office will deal with the comparative egotism of John McCain’s bold declaration: “I know how to win wars.” Such words were never heard from the apparently inferior likes of Washington, Grant, Pershing, Eisenhower, MacArthur or even Petraeus. Can old John live up to his boast? Did his ordeal as a POW, which he admittedly faced with great courage, uniquely equip him to win not just one war, but “wars” (plural)?

Mike: Have you noticed that our comments (numbers 4 through 11) don’t really belong in this thread? They belong in the thread about the Berlin speech.

  • 13. Mike Carroll  |  July 25th, 2008 at 7:30 am

Yeah, that’s my fault. I sometimes do a partial thread hijack because I lack the patience to wait for a proper thread. Sue me for damages.
And, along that line, as you investigate the WSJ’s tax numbers from a previous thread I did some checking for you.
Despite the assurances of the liberal economists that the Bush tax cuts would blow a 1 trillion dollar hole in the budget, the deficit fell in half from 2003 to 2007 as federal revenues soared by a record $750 billion.
    OOPS!
