Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

In one convenient little package, we have HERE two sides of the argument over George W. Bush’s place in history.

Time will tell, but I find it hard to believe that history will be kind to Bush. I agree that his initiatives in fighting aids in Africa have been exemplary and his initial response to 9/11 was very good. But there have been too many negatives such as the Iraq War, his response to Katrina, his trampling of the constitution to fight the war on terror, his scare tactics, the loss of U.S. prestige overseas, his failure to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure, the mounting U.S. debt, his politicizing the justrice department, his failure to ask Americans to sacrifice to fight the war on terror, his failure to reduce our dependency on foreign oil which funds terrorism…The list goes on and on.

The greatest failure of G.W. Bush will be his inability to understand the needs of the middle class. I believe that sums all of it. He has been guided by those that careless about the middle class.

As he once said, “You are my base, the haves and have mores.”

And yet, people still chose him for a second term because he looked like someone they would more likely have a beer with than John Kerry.

In my opinion, I believe his legacy standing will be below that of his grades he had while in college, but then again, he only made it into that certain college by using the legacy clause.
