Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Really classy! Did Ronald Reagan ever do something like this with Nancy?

As you probably know, John McCain and his wife Cindy paid a visit yesterday to a motorcycle rally at the Buffalo Chip campgrounds in Sturgis, S.D.

As in past years, the doings at the rally include a nightly BIKINI PAGEANT in which the women often appear in the buff for the gratification of the slack-jawed menfolk.

McCain, jokingly or not, offered up his lovely missus as a contestant, as we see here:

So after telling us you didn’t care who Obama hangs around with, you now expect us to be upset with who McCain pays a visit to? Nice try.

  • 2. Pat Cunningham  |  August 5th, 2008 at 5:25 pm

Once again, Bob, you’ve failed to understand. I don’t care who Obama hangs around with in his private life (and as I said previously, I don’t care how much money McCain blows at the crap tables in Vegas). But I do care how McCain conducts his public campaign for the presidency. And I think the episode related here doesn’t speak well for him. I think it was vulgar, sexist and extremely disrespectful to his wife. And he did this in front of TV cameras for viewing by a national audience. Apparently, that doesn’t bother you. Well, different strokes for different folks.

If I ever had the balls (and stupidity) to say something like McCain did in public, in front of strangers, my wife would make sure that was the last time I had them. And rightfully so.

I hear ya, Hoke. I don’t know very many, if any, women who would tolerate that kind of conduct from their husbands or boyfriends. McCain is living on his wife’s money, and he treats her like a tramp. By the way, did you get a close look at the gray T-shirt in the photo at the top of this post?

Wow! Apparently McCain\’s wife tolerates it. Neither one of them thought this one through. Interesting campaign manager who would sign them up for that. Oh, yes, I sure want THIS guy as President. Yikes!

If you take the time to hear the words instead of spinning it, it sure sound like he was describing a conversation he had with his pretty wife while shopping. I could totally hear my wife and I having this conversation with a grin from ear to ear. Would she ever do it? NO!!

When did he ever jokingly or not, offer up his lovely missus as a contestant?

    He Didn’t!

    God damn America John McCain.

  • 8. hokumboy  |  August 5th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

Pat Buchanan was saying that McCain’s channeling his inner fighter pilot.

Obama = Thunderous applause from appreciative stadium crowd of 200,000
McCain = Hoots and hollers from 50,000 beer-guzzling HOGs

    Obama = Presidential
McCain = Buffoonish (reads speech from index cards)

Obama = Future 44the President of the United States
McCain = Future Fox News Analyst

Cons, you’re making this way too easy for Obama!

Well, I think we owe a debt of gratitude to Some1WhoGetsIt (comment No. 6) for straightening out this matter for us. Gosh, how did any of us ever get the notion that what McCain did was sexist and vulgar? In reality, it was loving and playful, the kind of conversation they’d have while shopping. Except this was in front of television cameras and a crowd of thousands. I’m glad we’ve put this little episode behind us. I hope we’ve all learned a lesson about not jumping to conclusions until we hear from Some1WhoGetsIt. After all, the guy only publicly imagined out loud that his wife could win a beauty-pageant titled named for animal feces — a pageant in which lewd conduct is a regular feature. What’s wrong with that?

Orlando, we should probably add the fact that those 50,000 beer guzzlers were not there to see McCain but only there to see Kid Rock.

See how that works? Now me? I’d much rather see the Decemberists then Kid Rock.

I’ve seen a video of the Buffalo Chip Bikini Beauty Pageant, but it’s a little too risque to post directly on this blog. After all, this is the Web site of a family newspaper. But you can check it out here (and ponder again McCain’s idiocy in publicly associating his wife with this event):

I know this is an extremely important issue and I wish I had the time to study it carefully so I could be properly enraged but, having spent the morning bitterly clinging to my bible and firearms, now I must insert my label pin, check the inflation of my tires and drive to Whole Foods to check on the price of argula.

  • 14. Mike Carroll  |  August 6th, 2008 at 8:03 am

    Edit-Label should be lapel above.

  • 15. Pat Cunningham  |  August 6th, 2008 at 8:06 am

Mike: Check out the video link in Comment No. 12. It’ll inflate more than your tires.

Pat-If I try to go there from my work PC (suspecting from your comment what I will find) my reduced work schedule may go to zero. GE doesn’t have a sense of humor.

  • 17. Pat Cunningham  |  August 6th, 2008 at 8:40 am

Mike: It’s not really hard-core, and there’s no nudity. But there is simulated oral sex.

  • 18. Menlo Bob  |  August 6th, 2008 at 9:53 am

You’re saying Monica Lewinsky made an appearance?

  • 19. Pat Cunningham  |  August 6th, 2008 at 10:17 am

Simulated, Bob, simulated. Not the real thing.

  • 20. Craig Knauss  |  August 7th, 2008 at 8:35 am

“GE doesn’t have a sense of humor.”

Welcome to the world of government contracting. DoD and DoE both do the same thing: crack down on contractor employees while their own employees run amok. Oh, well.
