The political cognoscenti are inclined to say that political endorsements by celebrities don’t matter much.
That may be true in a general sense, but there might also be exceptions to the rule — perhaps momentous exceptions.
A couple of economists at the University of Maryland are out with a study suggesting that Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement “had a major — and possibly even decisive — impact on the Democratic primaries, netting Barack Obama more than one million votes.”
