Public favor for drilling not so big after all

To hear some people tell it, polls show that most Americans are enthusiastic about getting started right away on offshore oil drilling and drilling in protected areas of Alaska.
But when the questions aren’t too simplistic, POLL RESULTS tell a different story.

This poll tells me nothing….46 percent strongly want off shore drilling. Of the remaining, how many drive a car, and how many miles per week do they drive, and what is their income. Since the Democratic congress is changing their tune as we speak, I’m betting they woke up and smelled the coffee….or is that oil fumes.

Of course, the polls will produce a wider spectrum of responses when the poll has a wider range of possible responses.
So far, the best energy policy I’ve heard of comes from Paris Hilton. The Democrats are idealistic and contrarian, to their detriment, and the Republicans are talking like sophists, trying to BS and scare their way into the White House.
Even if we don’t burn petroleum for energy we use it for petrochemicals for fertilizers and plastics. We’ll need that even if we switch to alternative energies. If and when those offshore platforms come online in 10 years, we may need the petroleum they produce for our economy for *resource* independence, even if it’s no longer needed for *energy* independence.
