So what….Obama voted a whopping 49 percent with Bush in 2006. Wow! And Mccain voted with the President only 67 percent back in 2001. Factcheck.org
The statistics don’t mean a lot until you look specifically what was voted for and what wasn’t….like the Troop surge (which was successful)….Obama voted against it, Mccain for it.
As far as being different than Bush, look at Mccain’s stance on Russia back in 2006…quite visionary…. http://www.theconservativevoice.com/article/33916.html
Make a note of the fact that Barry took 3 tries to figure out that he should probably be stronger in his rhetoric regarding condemnation of Russia’s aggression against Georgia.

Kaus: I know you’re trying to make a point in that mish-mash of stuff, but I’ll be damned if I can figure out what it is.

Great, let’s make it a referendum between Bush (McCain) and Carter (Obama). Better yet. Between Bush (McCain) and anyone else serving in his first term of his Senate career (Obama).

Maybe comment #1’s point is that there are lies, damn lies, and statistics… and if that wasn’t his point, then it’s mine. The ad operates by trying to convince the viewer to fall for the logical fallacy of guilt by association.
That doesn’t mean the point of the ad is necessarily wrong, just that the writers may think the viewers are too stupid to figure it out for themselves.

Jason C: Let’s not get carried away with concern that John McCain is a victim of “guilt by association.” Have you ever heard of the Rev. Wright? Bill Ayers? Tony Rezko? The Republican right has had a field day finding Barack Obama guilty by association. Don’t tell me there’s anything wrong with holding John McCain responsible for his ever-increasing support of the failed Bush administration.

My point from post #1 is that statistics don’t tell the whole story.
1. Mccain voted with Bush 95 percent for 2008…..the year ain’t over
2. I find it shocking that Obama voted 49 percent the same as Bush….does this mean he is half like Bush? Which half of Bush? Bush’s brain or his rear end?
3. Even though Mccain voted like Bush 95 percent in 2008, there are areas OTHER than voting where Mccain was different…like his strong stance on Russia….which goes back to 2006 statements calling Russia the KGB.
4. Since Obama takes several trys to make his statements on policy (Pandoring and Testing the waters), it is hard to tell where he really is like Bush and where he is different.

Getting carried away is about the only thing I’m not doing.
Guilt by association is a logical fallacy no matter who is doing it and no matter who is the “victim”.
Also, the ad associates votes with approval rating which are apples and oranges. Approval ratings need not be based on actual policy, but on perceptions that may be based on such various Bush-only issues such as winning the 2000 election the way he did, his difficulties with idioms, his questionable Air National Guard history, his intimate eye moment with Putin, etc. Unless, McCain was playing Cyrano de Bergerac to Bush and Putin, I don’t think we can put that one on him.
