Hey, Newt! My gas station offers air for free!

I used to think Newt Gingrich was a pretty bright guy who had just somehow gone a little off kilter with all that right-wing blather of his.
But now I think he’s suddenly crossed the line into dementia.
Newt was on Fox News (where else?) last night, claiming that the much-discussed tire-gauge strategy to save energy resources actually is a scheme hatched by Barack Obama to “enrich Big Oil.”
No kidding. Check it out HERE.

With all Obama\’s hot air he could fill up the tires of all the cars. Honestly most places charge for air. We might live in podunville where a few places don\’t but most do…

Yeah, Dave, but do you buy Gingrich’s theory that Big Oil is benefitting from the sale of air?

We need air in our tires and offshore drilling.
Factcheck.org figures that expanded offshore drilling is projected to produce far more oil eventually than can be saved by proper tire inflation – nearly three times as much even by the conservative estimate of government experts, and more than 10 times as much if an industry-endorsed estimate is correct.

And I thought that liberals were supposed to be the snarky smart-alecks. We must be a decadent society indeed when we can commit so many resources to such petty attempts to wring the smallest amout of “gotcha” out of any political statement.

“Factcheck.org figures that expanded offshore drilling is projected to produce far more oil eventually than can be saved by proper tire inflation ….” And even more importantly, far more OIL PROFITS. Adjusting tire pressure REDUCES oil consumption. And we can’t have that. After all, oil company profits is all that matters. Right?
