Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Jonathan Alter of Newsweek SAYS a study of campaign ads shows that John McCain resorts to false smears more than does Barack Obama.

Do you think McCain should smear less or Obama should smear more?

Maybe an ad should say that it’s not surprising that they guy who into Annapolis by his forebears and barely graduated in the bottom 1% of his class managed to get himself shot down.

Jason C - Can we assume you are kidding about that Ad or are you truly thankless (And Clueless may I add) enough to be serious?

Take the basic element of his military service to this country out of the equation for a moment. Einstein, Bill Gates, The Wright Brothers, Edison and Walt Disney are a very short list of the many drop outs who have changed our world. Should they also get the idiot tag you are seemingly giving McCain or would you concede getting good or bad grades does not necessarily translate into one being a “Smart Person” or a “Leader”?

Hey, don’t forget that Lincoln had hardly any formal education at all. Oh, and yours truly is a college dropout — and yet a genius and a skillful leader of raucous exchanges of political opinions.

At least we’ll have one day of respite:

Hoke: That’s known as Rudy Giuliani Day.

    Sadly,
    I think you’re right.
It seems Rudy has the franchise on 9/11.

No, I’m not advocating such an ad actually be used, I’m not that snarky, but the question remains: should Obama’s campaign use more smear?

They should at least ask him to sign off on his SF 180.
    I will if he will!

    Good idea, Hoke.

I don’t condone the use of smear campaigns in any form. But you wouldn’t believe some of the right wing emails, letters to the editor, etc., that I have seen and the accusations they make about Obama. It is nauseating. The far right will stop at nothing to discredit Obama. And that includes distributing outragious lies, such as he’s a supporter of bin Laden. If Obama is to receive (this crap), then maybe it is better to give!
