The best speech last night was by a Republican

In terms of pertinent political issues in this election year, the best speech at last night’s opening session of the Democratic Convention was delivered by former U.S. Rep. Jim Leach, a Republican:

Apparently CNN couldn’t afford the hit on their ratings. That must be why they bailed out on the Leach speech early.

Bob: Don’t get me started on TV coverage of this convention. It’s simply awful, all the way around, except for C-Span. MSNBC is a disaster, with its anchor desk outside the convention arena. Chris Matthews’ “Hardball” program, which is airing right now, is unwatchable because of shouting by crowds in the background. Why did these network pinheads set up outside the hall? They’re idiots. As for CNN dropping out of the Leach speech, that kind of stuff is typical of all the commercial news shops. I still say the Leach speech was great. Interestingly, as for the on-air networks (as opposed to cable), the biggest ratings last night went to NBC.

Leach is an awful speaker. He should confine himself to writing think pieces and hope others read them aloud.

Looking forward to the best speech at the Republican convention perhaps being a Democrat: Joe Lieberman.

Are you saying it won’t be McCain’s speech? You’re probably right about that.
