McCain wanted to pick Lieberman, but theocrats forced him to back down
August 31st, 2008 at 01:04pm Pat Cunningham
The specter of a rebellion by the Religious Right prompted John McCain to give up his desire to name Sen. Joe Lieberman as his running mate.
According to THIS REPORT, McCain opted for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, though he “hardly knew her, and she had virtually no foreign policy experience…[V]irtually no one had heard of her, a McCain adviser said.”
This passage says it all:
“At the very least, the process reflects Mr. McCain’s history of making fast, instinctive and sometimes risky decisions. ‘I make them as quickly as I can, quicker than the other fellow, if I can,’ Mr. McCain wrote, with his top adviser Mark Salter, in his 2002 book, ‘Worth the Fighting For.’ ‘Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint.’”
Yeah, but what about the complaints of the rest of us?

“Advisors close to the campain said”…..
Which advisors? How close were they to the campaign? Sounds like gossip to me. No sources are credited. Pat spreading rumors again.

It just wasn’t the Fundies and their brain-dead leaders, it was El Rushbo as well. He, too, publicly warned McCain not to select Lieberman, and promised the destruction of the Republican party if he didn’t chose someone who fits the Dittohead ideology. Now I understand why he’s paid $50M year — this propagandist has an amazing power to almost effortlessly brainwash his flock. When Rush says “attack,” they do. They ask no questions, they just obey.

Who could McCain have picked that the liberal Dems would NOT have found fault with?

Consider the source of this blog 1st of all. What a loser. Secondly, how dare the liberal left…that has nominated a socialist (with no foreign policy experience btw) as the top guy on their ticket, find fault with conservatives wanting at least one conservative on the Republican ticket. And also lets be clear, you haven’t heard a single word from Republicans regarding race. On the Democratic ticket, you’ll find top Emil Jones calling black Clinton supporters “Uncle Toms”. You find the Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate making fun of Eastern Indians that are trying to live the American Dream. And you’ll find the Presidential candidate say he’s visited 57 states…and they say Dan Quayle was stupid! Guys like Pat C. and his ilk are hypocrits to the greatest degree…Pat knows it…but out of shame he’ll never admit it.

Not Hillary.

If Biden had done to Alaska what he proposed doing to Iraq then Gov. Palin would have been governor over the 50th, 51st and 52nd states. He needs to be held accountable for that kind of ridiculous “foreign policy” recommendation of partitioning Iraq.

If the dems are so interested in Lieberman, why did they cast him out? Why didn’t they choose him for President?
And if the dems are so interested in ‘open dialogue’ ‘healing the wounds’, ‘uniting’ why don;t they have any conservatives represented on their ticket?

Ah yes, the theocrats. The ones we’ve been reading about in all the papers. The ones who were said to be considering a vote for Barack Obama. Well that should end that speculation. Barack will now be free to return to his old church and pretend not to listen to the sermon. Damn theocrats.

Leatherneck asks: “Who could McCain have picked that the liberal Dems would NOT have found fault with?” Leatherneck seems not to understand politics. Conservative Republicans reliably find fault with liberal Democrats, and vice versa. That’s the way it works. Notice, please, that conservative Republicans found fault with Obama’s choice of Joe Biden. Big surprise, right, Leatherneck? What did they expect him to do? Choose a right-wing nutcase? There’s an old saying: Politics ain’t beanbag. You’re apparently not familiar with that concept. If you were, perhaps you could contribute more intelligent observations to the discussion here.
